Why US? {The Chill Mom Inception Story}

My long time friend Renee and I have been roommates, travel companions, wine snobs, beach bums, confidantes, and always Chill Moms.

She approached me with this great story and idea for starting a business based on living the Chill Mom life and supporting other Chill Moms in the process. It sounded like an AWESOME idea and it resonated with the work I had been doing for years as a Life Coach.

Renee and I both have this crazy love of teenagers. We always have, and the actual act of parenting teens is one of things that has bound us so closely together over the years.

Teenagers are our jam.

And this came as a shock to me personally!!

I was raised to believe that aliens or other Unseen Forces take over your darling preschooler at age 13. The conversations I overheard from MY parents told a story that teenagers are inherently dangerous and complicated. (And... I may have lived up to those beliefs from time to time...)

But, the truth is, we all get to age 13 one day at a time. There is no abrupt moment where your kid ceases being the boy or girl you raised and becomes some adolescent you don’t recognize!

There were certainly times along the way when my (then) teenage girls made decisions or had friends that I wasn’t crazy about.  At times, I really wondered how we were going to get through some of the turmoil.  Just when I began to wonder how, the next day brought new hope and eventually my daughters grew into beautiful young women who are my dearest and closest people!!  My fingers are crossed that getting my 17 year old son through high school continues to be fairly smooth sailing.

Renee and I (independently) came to the conclusion that parenting teens is pretty much the best Mom gig yet. To us, teens are funny and smart and we love it when you see glimpses of their adult selves. They are beginning to funnel into their gifts and passions, and you feel the most absurd pride about who they are becoming right in front of your eyes.

So, we decided to create Chill Mom, because we felt that there was an absence of POSITIVE conversations about parenting teens, and a place that provides both local and global resources for parents to raise curious and independent teens into intelligent and compassionate leaders.

We've raised our hands to be Chill-Leaders in our community!!

Renee and I obviously love our own Chill Kids with the ferocity of a thousand splendid suns. And they make us laugh and cry and shake our heads and thank our good God that he trusted us with these extraordinary young people, and all that parenting in those early years turned into incredible teens that we don't just love...we actually like them as people.

Renee ~

I’m coming into Chill Mom as a busy mom in the corporate world of 8 to 5ers (well, when I’m not traveling for work).  I struggle for balance between being a mom, an executive, taking care of myself and contributing in my community. 

In that struggle I’ve found systems that work and others I’m still trying to figure out.  As I learn what works for me or even ideas and systems that I’d like to try, I’m excited to share them with others in similar situations.

I'm coming into the Chill Mom space as the Life Coach who loves food and fitness and personal development. By linking arms with Renee, and narrowing my coaching platform to Moms of Teens (well, actually all parents, let's be honest) I truly believe that Renee and I can help thousands and thousands of families feel connected, stay present, and LOVE the process of raising their kids without losing themselves along the way.

We want to inspire parents to not just raise, but truly elevate teens!
