What Japan Drinks #1

Liana and I stopped by Uwajimaya, Seattle’s Asian superstore, after heading out to my favorite congee restaurant IN THE WORLD. If you live in Seattle, you should really check them out – they’re closing their doors on November 15th under new management (shhh don’t tell them I told you). I’LL MISS YOU.
Anyway, whilst perusing the aisles, my eyes were instantly drawn to a bright orange bottle with the cutest smiley face on it. There were only a few left, so I figured it was a popular item and plopped it into our basket. We also got some seaweed snacks and even happened upon Beard Papas’ chocolate filled cream puffs – one of my favorite treats in San Francisco. I’m so totally gonna make friends at work when I bring a dozen of these. MWMWAHAHA.
I don’t know if I’ve written that my video camera has FINALLY died, but if I didn’t… my video camera finally died. Sadness. I’m looking for a replacement so I can begin video blogging on the regular again… maybe even with a FORMAT and some STRUCTURE. lol.. but I digress.
Because of the color and design of the bottle, I was expecting the natchan ORANGE to be like a sweet, orange drink – almost orange sherbert like… but OH MAN WAS I WRONG. It tasted like watered down Tropicana. Boo. Worst thing is, it tastes healthy, but it doesn’t even have 1% of your daily allotment of Vitamin C. Liana said that it tastes like the OJ you get in Hong Kong, which is kind of sad. Oh well.
If I were to start rating these drinks on a 5 star scale on a normal basis (which I won’t LOL BUT I TOTALLY MIGHT), I would put it around a 2. Apparently this stuff is celebrating a 10-year anniversary – which surely makes some kid born in the late 90’s in Asia severely deprived. LOL.
YAY JAPAN! Boo natchan.

Oh man, I love the weird bottled drinks from the jp market, but it’s such a bummer when you strike out. Our local Mitsuwa started stocking some sort of yuzu drink. I think it just says “citrus” in the ingredients but it’s SOO good. But then again, I purposely water down my OJ with club soda. So non-sweet and refreshing yum yum.

Yep. The bottled drink market is amazing here in Japan. Every time a new one comes on the market I have to try it. And finally we are coming up to winter so than means the hot cans from the vending machine!
