AllThingsRadio: Old Skool, Fresh Mode

“Like wax on your tongue.”
That’s what it feels like to listen to The Whitest Boy Alive, a spinoff project of Kings of Convenience of which Erlend Øye is the lead singer of both entities. Brecken and Mark got me in the know. Hee hee. This may be a disservice to Erlend, but you might recognize his voice on the “caveman” series of Geico Insurance commercials.
Jazzy guitar chords, bass lines that seem to be hijacked from the disco age and smooth drum breakdowns that could’ve belonged to early Police albums (lots of sexy side stickin’). The lyrics are intelligent and anxious for some kind of affection – STORY OF MY LIFE. LOL.

I’ve also picked up an old album from TV on the Radio, who also played in Seattle recently for what I assume as a big push to promote their upcoming album “Dear Science.” I haven’t given it a listen yet, mostly due to the fact that the “cool girls” at work recommended them. And since I’ve been pining for this shirt for like… FOREVER, I’m not really sure if I’ll dig ‘em or not. Hee hee. I’ll shout a tweet with a synopsis sometime in the near future. Alice – FYI Bowie is on the last track in the album.
A while back, I picked up Yoshinori Sunahara’s Lovebeat album, which is a lot of instrumental beats and uhh… a lot of love. He’s from Sapporo, the same place where my dinner’s libations were created! Haha. It’s great Sunday morning “make an omelet while she does crosswords on the dining room table” background music. Jason recommended Radiohead’s OK Computer, so I’ve popped that into my listening queue too. Thanks homey.
HOORAY FOR (Relatively) NEW TRACKS!
