Video Blog: A Grand Tour of Civic Center Farmers’ Market
Youtube link here. Since I won’t be in San Francisco much longer, I wanted to show non-local bay area peeps (lol I’m sure I could have written that better) a tour of San Francisco’s Civic Center “Heart O’ the City” Famers’ Market. There’s a lil’ bit of tom-foolery with the elevators, street thugs, a look at lots of fresh produce and a small homage to a man who I watched everyday after school.
Don’t believe the hype: the one @ the Embarcadero / Ferry Building is great for tourists and the well-to-do, but if you want quality produce on a dime… you come here. In San Francisco, you will do very well for yourself if you follow the older Asian ladies… they know value!
Everything that I bought yesterday – carrots, onion, eggs, mushrooms, Meyer lemons, jalepenos and shallots – added up to a grand total of $4. FOUR DOLLARS. Don’t misunderstand tho… this farmers’ market is not as friendly as the one sitting on the bay. You’ll need to do a lil’ bit of research to get into the habit of scoring some righteously fresh produce, but that’ll come in time with experience. It’ll also get you trained on what’s regional, and more importantly… what’s in season. You’ll be an expert culinarian in no time!
YAY FRESHNESS!
