3rd Wheelin’ in the Mission

Okok, I didn’t feel like a 3rd wheel. I actually had a LOT of fun hanging out with Jeff and his ladyfriend Amy. I made reservations @ Limon in the Mission District, one of the premier Peruvian restaurants in San Francisco (another being James’ Destino restaurant). I’ve heard good things about it around the Internets, especially from the SF Yelp crowd. What kind of things? Well, take for instance this excerpt from Food & Wine Magazine and Michael Bauer (SF’s most recognized food critic):
“Peru’s cuisine is probably the best kept food secret in South America. A bounty of Pacific seafood, a fiendish enthusiasm for chiles and a confluence of Latino, Native American and even Japanese and Chinese influences make for a remarkable virtuosity”
Chosen by Michael Bauer as one of the five rising-star chefs of San Francisco, Martin Castillo has defined the menu for Limón. As owner and Executive Chef, Martin coordinates with his mother and two brothers to continue creating authentic and fusion Peruvian cuisine.
When I was in culinary school (a moment of silence please hee hee), I was a part of a team that created, presented and fabricated a Peruvian menu for a final project… so I’ve been enamoured with this once overlooked South American cuisine ever since. Look out for a similar themed restaurant in your closest major metropolitan area!
We ordered the Ceviche Limon, Lomo Saltodo (steak and fries), Churrasco a la Parilla (grilled 12oz. Ribeye), and the choco-cake with coconut ice cream. The Lomo reminded me a lot of my mom’s beefsteak, which is something that I haven’t decided if that’s good or not. Jeff and Amy seemed like they enjoyed their dishes. At the very least, I know Amy loved the dessert! Hee hee.
I had a great time seeing Jeff (who was in town from Beijing) and meeting Amy (who just flew in from Hawaii yesterday). It’s nice to see that he’s happy. That makes *me* happy. Jeff makes life seem so simple. It’s inspiring, really.
So to recap, the food was tasty and I know one more interesting person in the city! HOORAY. Thanks Jeff!
YAY JEFF!
