Self Lecture: Hello Herschell, It’s Me.
Dear self,
It has come to my attention that, until recently, you have been floating through space experiencing people, places and events as they come. You have always been *in the moment* without thinking too much about the future. Yes, I know it’s a scary question, but where the hell will you be in 5 years? I know you’ve been struggling with the fact that your career path is not linear and that just makes the future more uncertain. But there are positives to this. I promise.
You need to start planning for the future. It’s a necessity, especially since life isn’t as easy as living with your parents and finding some extra spending money on the weekends. Essentially, you’re on your own. In a relatively new city. Yes, you have fabulous friends that will help you out… but you have to start helping yourself. You must become more independent and view yourself in a larger scope. If you don’t, something uncontrollable will pop up, everything will crumble in front of you and you’ll have nothing to fall back on.
You’ve tried so hard to hone your talents and improve yourself. I’m proud of you. But all your birthed blessings will go to waste if you don’t find out how to express them in a manner that you can build off of. Scattered thoughts and missed opportunities shall be on your obituary if you don’t start being someone you can count on. You should realize, specifically because of recent events, that life is too short just to coast in an ambivalent inertia. What you also have to realize is that life is long enough not to coast either. It will destroy you.
You need to start thinking Herschell.
Plan ahead. You need to.
~Your future self
P.S.: Your mom misses you. You also need to do laundry.

Hersch, you’re one of the most widely talented guys I know (I’d even go as far as to liken you a “renaissance man”). You’re absolutely right that it would be a gorram shame if you were to let those talents go to waste.
