Don’t Hate The Player, Hate The Internets

I hate hotlinking:
Bandwidth theft is the intentional usage of someone’s bandwidth without that person’s authorization. A number of types of bandwidth theft exist.
So yeah, it’s using other people’s stuff (images are my main pet peeve) and linking directly back to someone else’s site without any credit whatsoever, therefore sucking up bandwidth for the original owner… which can cause ZOMGBANDWITHGONEGOODBYEWEBSITE messages (which I’ll be missing since I switched over to Dreamhost). H8 H8 H8.
I’m talking to hotlinkin’ Myspace / Xanga / Livejournal users. Hell, I don’t even hotlink images from my *own* site on Myspace page. Blah. It’s like they don’t have any respect for those that were here before them. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE INTERNET GOT COOL. Well, dear reader, I was there before it was cool, and it was good. LOL. I feel like that old guy sitting on a porch yelling at the punk teenagers while they walk by. *shakes fist*
So, thanks to Surprise Highway’s (How to Stop) Hotlinking and Leeching tutorial and a UNIX File Permissions refresher from Dartmouth, I should be free from carrying the bandwidth burden. So instead of getting the image that you want, you get the little picture above… cute, no? Well, I’m sure there will be a lot of pissed of Myspace users come tomorrow. /dons flame suit. MWMWAHAHAHAHA.
So, to recap: I hate hotlinking. Hot *links* with a lil’ mustard and grilled onions is another story all together.
Dammit. Now I’m hungry
