What Happened To The Other 98 Ranches?

There’s a potluck @ work (LOL) on Friday, and I’ve decided to make the same dumplings that I made for a ViBlog post so many lifetimes ago. They’re relatively simple, no one else would make them, and I can freeze the leftovers for a lazy Sunday afternoon. So, after my decision, I took the Muni (public transit system) over to the Sunset district and right when I walked in the door to Jocelyn’s place… She inquired…
“Have you ever been to Ranch 99?”
I said “AWWWWWWW SNAPS WHAT’S THAT AND CAN I EAT IT?” “no.” She said it was the quintessential Asian market this side of the Mississippi (Ok she didn’t invoke the longest river in the United States, but she did say it was pretty big)… and their website (see picture above) is a mess. LOL. Never been to one? Hell, you ever been to California? What are you waiting for! I have a couch for sleeping. Hee hee.
After a lil’ google play, I discovered there’s even a Wiki on this place. Deets follow:
99 Ranch Market (also called Tawa Supermarket in its Chinese name, sometimes called Ranch 99 due to confusion based on its logo) is one of the largest Asian American supermarket chains in the United States. It operates mainly on the West Coast, especially in California. It also has stores in Arizona, Georgia, Hawaii, Nevada, and Washington. It also has a joint venture with the Chinese Canadian T & T Supermarket (???) chain, which operates mainly in the Vancouver area and also Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto.
We went to the one in Daly City. YAY. There was stuff in there that I would love to try (the 100 different varieties of fresh noodles)… as well as some things that I’d rather pass on (pig’s uterus). Yeah. We even had din din @ Porridge King (Yelp reviews here)! The chicken congee, which I would have normally marked as mediocre, was delicious only because it was the first time that I’ve tasted the dish since I made it in Chicago. MMMmmMMmmMm… My favorite!
3 cheers for food posts!

YO!!! I’ve been to one of these. Actually, mom shops for the seafood there, instead of any other meat market. Apparently, she say says, the seafood is a lot more fresh.
So yeah… If I see any of the other 98 ranches, I’ll let u know. peace
