A Rebel Without A Cause… Yet.

Tsotsi had me emotionally invested within 4 minutes and had me for the rest of the movie. Gripping and almost overwhelming, I could hardly breathe through out the entire film. I honestly haven’t been moved like this since that other film in Chicago with gDubs.
In a shantytown on the edges of Johannesburg, South Africa, 19-year-old Tsotsi has repressed any memory of his past. Orphaned at an early age, Tsotsi has lived a life of extreme social and psychological deprivation. A feral young man with scant regard for the feelings of others, he has hardened himself against any feelings of compassion. With no past and no plans for the future, he exists only in an angry present.
Released internationally last February, the beautifully directed film won the Academy Award for Foreign Language Film at the 78th Academy Awards. It also received other awards all around the world. The film’s official trailer can be found here.
Tsotsi, loosely translated as “thug” (that was the international title) really captures the humanity in the most hardened souls. If you believe that you’re beyond help and you feel as though nothing can ever make you feel… anything again… please watch this movie. It will change you.
Truly moving.
