Hip N’ Posh: Frission
So full. I accompanied JYinYang (who I might add was quoted in the LA Times a few days ago) to a director’s dinner for Frameline30, an organization responsible for the international LGBT Film Festival, at Frission… located on 244 Jackson Street in SF. Here’s what SF’s Citysearch editor had to say about it:
The main dining room feels like a sprawling 1960s conversation pit, with the hip and the moneyed swiveling in mid-century captain chairs, checking each other out from tweedy orange banquettes. Everything glows sexily under the mod dome, back-lit in peachy pink. Downtempo music and champagne-fueled chatter from the neighboring lounge sail through the unobstructed room.
I really wished that I remembered to take the menu home with me ’cause it’d be so much simpler to just copy n’ paste what i had instead of trying to make a weak attempt at describing it with my novice-level palette.
We started off with cocktails and a little mingling with some very interesting folks… one who was very curious in knowing my answer to the future of news on the Internet. I fumbled for a moment, but recovered… sorta. Hee hee. Maybe one day, I’ll share it with you, but for now.. THE FOOD.
The first course was a seared scallop appetizer in a deep bowl filled with a thin layer of creamy froth and an outer layer of cilantro oil, topped with tomato concasse (roughly chopped) and micro greens. We then had ribeye steak, cut across the grain over rich, buttery mashed potatoes that could honestly have been sweetened with a vanilla bean. Dessert was a blackberry bread pudding that contrasted so well with an almost unbearably tart berry gelato. Oh… and wine. LOTS OF WINE.
My dinner companions were just as interesting as the food was delicious. Very entertaining… definitely one of my first nights to remember in SF. *Ahem* So as to not *just* talk about the food… Persistent Vision 2006, the aforementioned movie festival, will take place June 15-25, 2006. I haven’t looked at the program guide yet, but there are a few films that are already gaining word-of-mouth excitement. I’ll keep you updated as the even draws nearer.
Good food, conversation and umm… food? YAY.
Good times, good times.
