A Time-shift Romance
Just a moment. I have been drifting down the infinite timeline one or two seconds behind you. We’ve almost met a million times. I’m certain of it. I’ve seen you walking around the corner, sitting in a slow moving bus as I walk on foot, waiting two spots ahead of me in the check-out line, walking off the airplane while I’m waiting to get on and paying for the check while I just order my eggs over-easy. I watch the stars, you tie your shoes. I ask for smoking, you request non. You go downstairs, I go up. You go in, I go out. I enter, you leave. That’s just how it is.
And ironically, you’re probably writing about the same thing and publishing it to the endless electronic void of the web. Sadly, our friend base doesn’t extend far enough and our contact networks don’t touch. Our messages will never be exchanged, but many people will know about them. Because of this, I won’t be able to send you a greeting card on your birthday, share secrets about how I shop for socks or realize that you’re the ultimate Scrabble champion. It’s a shame really… I would have wanted to know how you like your coffee. How your eyes change color in the sunlight. What kinds of movies you like. Or how crazy it is to know that we both secretly want to learn the dance from the Janet Jackson - “If” video.
So next time you’re getting ready to leave…
…please wait a few moments and let me catch up, k?

If you ever make it out to Cali, we’ll find a dance studio that can teach us!
