Back On Track: Takin’ The A Train

I just got my hands on Jamie Cullum’s new album: Catching Things. Not quite as excellent as Twentysomething promised, but excellent none the less. Ain’t nuthin’ like a lil’ jazz for the contemporaries, right?
Dan Nakamura aka The Automator produces the tracks and his funky style shows through on “I Only Have Eyes For You” and “Get Your Way”. Don’t worry tho. It’s still all about Jamie Cullum. My favorite Brit jazz vocalist tries a few new things, but still stays true to what got him there in the first place.
I already have favorites on the CD even after the first listen. These lines kept me smiling throughout the day:
It’s just another story caught up in another photograph I found
It seems like another person lived that life a great many years ago from nowWhen I look back at my ordinary ordinary life
I see so much magic though I missed it @ the time
When I look back at my ordinary, ordinary life
I see so much magic though I missed it @ the timeJamie Cullum – Photograph
Can you relate? I know I’ve done it before. You come across that old picture that you still weren’t prepared to see (even after all this time), you tilt your head, and imagine yourself at that moment in time and wonder… how come I don’t feel like that now? Well my friend, I wish I had an answer for you. I’m in the same boat. But it’s alright, I have these tracks to keep my head above water.
Thanks Mr. Cullum. You made my day.

I just saw Dan the Automator this past Friday. Amazing. He takes funky to a whole new level. If you get the chance, make sure you check him out…you won’t be disappointed.
By the by, Jamie Cullum’s cover of “Frontin’” by Pharell blew my mind when I first heard it. So smooth…like buttah, baby!
