Yakitate Does Paris

Whooray for Japan’s love for cooking culture! One of the most interesting anime around, Yakitate Japan (Nihonjin only) delivers hot, freshly baked animated episodes on the weekly. Here’s what Animenfo.com had to say:
Azuma Kazuma is a young baker. He has a dream that he will make Japanese bread, “Ja-pan”, which will be better than any other bread in Japan. He has “Solar Hands”, which are much warmer palms than those of normal people, and they are useful for making bread.
For the most part, it’s just over-the-top madness. Baker on baker (passive-aggressive) violence, mos def. That being said, it can get pretty heavy too (as much as an anime about battle baking can get). The series is cute and has a lot of diverse characters. It’s also very content heavy in the field of baking breads. I’ve actually learned a lot from it.
Anime Empire has been doing most of the subtitle work and it’s really great that they translate puns and more informative baking footnotes @ the top of the screen. It’s pretty easy to miss a lot of the Japanese only jokes since 2 of the main characters are from the ‘country’ and get the dialects crossed.
It’s clever because they name some of their breads “Country name” + Pan. Obviously, there’s no Ja-Pan. But Azuma Kazuma wants to change that with his long series of jaPANS. So yeah. I’ve already written too much to warrant an episode synopsis, but they’re in Paris. Yup. The bread capital of the world. It’s more interesting that I’m letting you know. Trust me. It’s good! It’s like Iron Chef without all the sweaty-sweaty!
