Techbargains comes through again. I picked up 3 Kenneth Cole, 1 IZOD, and 2 Calvin Klein shirts for what would have normally cost me ~$240. I only varied the branding because colors/styles were sold out. All three have good quality.
Although this might not look good on everyone, I’d recommend pointed collars (see pic on right) on all your shirts. They look cleaner and give you a more streamlined look. Versatile ’stretch’ shirts (Normally 95% cotton and 5% spandex/lycra) look just as slick @ the office under a 3 button suit as they are with a pair of dark distressed jeans @ the bars/cloooobs. Note: stretch shirts shrink a LOT in the washing machine, so either go larger in size, or dry clean only. If you’re uncertain about shirt colors, I’d say to get 2 white, 1 black and 1 light blue. And if you’re curious about ties, places like Banana Republic and J.Crew always have ties on sale in a bin in the back of the store. They’re perfectly good, trust me. Get something that’s simple and run with it.
Sure, the shirts are cheap… but that doesn’t necessarily mean bad quality. “Discontinued” = Shit. We made too many everyday-at-the-office shirts, and we have still to make room for the massive spring ‘05 shipment. Pick up what you can, you can never have too many dress shirts. Plus, if you’re young, you probably treat your clothes like crap anyway. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna preach, just wear these into the ground and when you finally “FIND THE WORTH OF A DOLLAR” get some quality gear. ![]()
